RESPONSE: This was my first attempt at making a short film. It was based upon E.A.Poe's poem 'the raven'. The poem was a basis from which I could produce imagery and ideas from. I selected a paragraph to base a narrative around, the short focused on three locations that would be projection pieces, using sculptures and layered collages. The foam structures and relief layers allowed the images to be deconstructed and the meanings pulled from specific symbols.
I wanted to achieve an american gothic look as I draw a lot inspiration from this genre of imagery. The poem was purely a basis to start from, I wanted to explore various techniques and methods of suggesting movement and narrative without actually using any live footage or sound.
